Self Improvement Solutions – 5 Steps To Unlock Your Innovation

Innovation is a talent that everybody has. Some find it easier to express their innovative side than others but that doesn’t mean you don’t possess the skill. Just like riding a bike, learning how to drive and shaving it takes a bit of time and practice to achieve your potential. It just takes time, practice and determination. In this article discover a few tips on how you can unlock your potential with these 5 self improvement solutions and bring out your innovative side.

1. Don’t listen to what others say.

If you have an idea, don’t let other people’s input ruin your idea. If they don’t like your idea then they can deal with it. You need to learn to do things for yourself. Do you think that Einstein and other great geniuses went on to listen to their friends about their ideas? I don’t think so.

2. Exercise

Exercising relaxes your body by sending endorphins through your body. During exercise many people get a rush of creativity since they are so relaxed. Try it, run for a mile or two and see what happens.

3. Find your own style

Everyone is unique and style is also unique in people too. A poet can be told from another one just because of the words he uses or a painter because of the brush he used. If you can find yourself a unique style that works for you people will learn what a valuable asset you are because no one would have the same talent as you.

4. Don’t hide yourself behind fancy equipment

Just because you have the most expensive high tech equipment doesn’t make you the best. Yes it does give you an advantage but it is only a small one. Take this for example, do you think a photographer with the newest camera on the market that really doesn’t understand photography at all is really going to make it bigger than a photographer who knows how to take pictures using a disposable camera. No! The same goes with writing, if you have an expensive laptop what use is it to you if you can’t write. Make sure that you are good with your skill, just because you have fancy equipment doesn’t mean you’re the best!

5. Add some passion

Passion is that extra bit of effort that will take you to the next level. People with talent can do a good job but someone with passion will work hard. Do you think that that job position will fall into your lap just because you are the most talented? Maybe, but others will be determined to get that position and that could make them virtually impossible.

These are just 5 of the many things that can unlock your innovation and hopefully you will take these into consideration to bring out your innovation and let everything snowball from there.

The Creative Business, an overview within I.T. and Innovation

June 22, 2009 by admin

Every business, whether it has a core IT function or deliverable or not seeks to achieve and strengthen their own market differentiator. But how do we create the behaviour that will ensure that we truly achieve what we believe we can?

It follows that every business, especially in the current climate, needs to innovate. Do you rely on the Developers, the analysts or the Directors to be creative? No – it should be a core behaviour right through your business – however big, or however small it is.

So how do we get our people ‘unleashed’ in this area?

Thinking – Challenge the norm – Innovate

There is a school of thought that says that creativity, something most people regard as a talent you either have or you don’t, is actually a skill like any other. It can be trained in the same way as you condition the brain to excel in any other skill. So if you can train IT skills, you can train creative thinking?

The key ingredient in getting people to innovate and be creative is to take away the barriers that naturally prevent it in a normal business environment. For example, you might expect the following thought process in almost any business.

1. Why should I try to be creative? I might fail. I will have to persuade others to get on side. Better that I just keep my head down.

2. Things are going ok, why change it? And if things get bad, then no one will want my crazy ideas with all their uncertainties. Better I keep my head down.

3. If I go public on that idea I had, it might not be 100%. Better I keep my head down.

4. The only great ideas get backed up by fact and logic in the end, so logic should come up with the good ideas – where’s the need for me to be creative? Better I keep my head down.

Great ideas don’t come from the sky in a flash of creative genius, they come from the confidence to challenge the norm – with the authority of knowledge and experience.

So what’s the short answer?

Have the confidence to be creative yourself and have the confidence to allow your people to be creative.

Confidence is the key.   Successful innovation comes when people have the confidence to challenge, the confidence to know from experience that new ideas are possible and better ways can be found.

The norm is most people do what you want them to do – what they think they are paid to do.  The minority, a few rebels, don’t.   It is expected that the challenge to the norm will come from the rebels, so the rest, the majority, don’t challenge by nature.

Make creativity and challenge a norm in your team, not the sole jurisdiction of the rebels.   Make it an expectation of behaviour – finish every team meeting with an opportunity to air new ideas.   Give your team the confidence to have them.   Most importantly, expect your team to have them.   If they do not, then the job is not being done – that is a shortfall in performance.

Eventually you get a new ‘norm’ – the Creative, innovative business or team you have set out to create

Developing Innovative Ideas for Business Success

Innovative ideas are what fuel the growth of any business. Thinking outside the box helps to distinguish you from the competition. In fact creative thinking is directly responsible for most all the new products and services we see being rolled out on a regular basis.

Most any new business venture that you may see is usually the result of some ambitious entrepreneurs’ creative idea that was put into action. Obviously creativity is needed in some form or fashion in order for business success to be achieved. But what do you do when your ability to muster up any original or innovative thoughts becomes challenging to you?

Here are 3 approaches you can easily use to stimulate your thinking and brain storm your way back into the forefront of your industry

Take Notes

Get into the habit of taking notes of anything that may strike you as interesting or shows potential as being an opportunity. Also noting existing problems may be helpful for pondering later in a more relaxing environment. Sometimes trying to tackle and solve all these things at work can be difficult since your mind is juggling multiple issues.

By reviewing these notes in an environment that is ‘removed’ from work you can better focus on them. Your ability to brain storm these issues will therefore be greatly enhanced by the relative tranquility of your surroundings.

Reflect

Gain perspective on your day by reflecting back on what went right and why and what may not have gone according to plan. The ability to learn from our mistakes will only make us better. In addition we will also gain peace in knowing we won’t make that same mistake again.

In looking back we always want to ask ourselves how a particular situation could have been handled differently or improved upon.

Maintain Social Ties

This is especially true with those people whose company you truly enjoy. Being around the company of those who relax and interest you is a great way to recapture that creative idea that has been eluding you. A mere comment, gesture or act can help unleash any ideas that had been ‘padlocked’ within your mind. Removing the pressures of the work environment makes your ability to recapture these random thoughts all the easier.

As you already understand implementing innovative ideas by thinking outside the box is what helps to distance you from the competition. The ability to harness and channel creative thinking into viable products, strategies or services can be a huge advantage. In this way any new businesses venture can gain a foothold in their industry and put them on a path for business success. There will be times however when your creative juices seem to completely dry up on you. By using the 3 approaches we discussed above you can easily trample these barriers and once again stimulate your creative thinking to regain your competitive edge.
