How to Select Innovative Supplier Partners Using a 5-Step Project Management Approach

January 30, 2010 by admin

Now more than ever, supplier selection must produce stellar results as companies increase their focus on supply chain management and push more requirements down the chain to their partners. Business continues, but with different strategies. For example, Siemens AG plans to reduce costs by centralizing 47% of its procurement spending by 2010, compared to its current level of 29%.

Clearly, companies are viewing changes in supplier management as a way to gain more value from their partners. Consequently, performance expectations are increasing, and companies are using their supplier partnerships as a means of driving innovation. Using the right supplier selection tools can play a critical role in building value-based relationships.

So, how can you ensure a successful selection process?

What is the Project Management Approach to Selecting the Best Suppliers — And How Will It Help Your Organization?

The Project Management Institute (PMI) model serves as an excellent framework for procurement activities. This structure can help procurement teams focus their attention on each key element in the selection process and identify the real treasures in their potential supplier base. The PMI model identifies five process groups teams can use to design and manage a value-based selection process. These are:

1. Initiating – Ensures the support of leaders in your organization so you can move forward.

2. Planning – Critical for identifying all of your business needs.

3. Executing – Provides a structured approach for evaluating bids to guarantee desired results.

4. Monitoring and Controlling – Forces you to evaluate and incorporate any new information.

5. Closing – Formalizes results and establishes a plan for implementation.

Initiating – The First Critical Step in Selecting an Innovative Supplier Partner

In the Initiating phase, the sourcing of a product or service is approved and key players are identified, including stakeholders and the project team. This is critical in large organizations where a product or service such as a communications process, for instance, touches a multitude of business units and functional groups.

For example, the General Motors (GM) dealer communications process involves approximately 10 constituent groups within GM alone. When the dealer relations team needed to identify a new supplier, they canvassed the corporation. They identified each department that used the process, even those that only sent materials to dealers occasionally. This group of stakeholders was involved up front, and the team was able to avoid issues later in the procurement activity.

Planning – A Phase That Must NOT Be Shortchanged Just So You Can Find a Supplier Quickly

The team uses the Planning phase to flesh out business and performance requirements in detail. Each stakeholder group feeds its unique set of expectations to the team, who then incorporates them into the requirements. The team identifies the risks, scope, cost targets, and timing of the procurement effort.

This phase has some unique aspects for a procurement project, the most important of which is identifying qualified potential suppliers. The team should think creatively about how the new supplier must create value and provide benefits that were missing in the past. With proper planning, an organization can move from having suppliers who just sit on the sidelines to having real value partners who support the strategic vision. For instance, suppose a sales organization wishes to upgrade its online store and improve order-processing time. They must identify a fulfillment supplier with strong IT capabilities and state-of-the-art warehousing.

A note of caution on the Planning phase is in order. Procurement teams must resist the temptation to shortchange this step in the name of finding a supplier quickly. The task of identifying requirements can take months, as was the case with GM’s dealer communications process. Identifying requirements up front will uncover possible conflicts and inadequacies. For example, if a benefits solutions group wants to implement a web-based application process, they need to know whether their existing technology infrastructure will accommodate such a change. Knowing these things will help the team come up with a realistic task list and timeline for implementation.

Executing – The Third Critical Step in Selecting an Innovative Supplier Partner

In the Executing phase, the team brings to bear the fruit of the Planning phase by creating and distributing a Request for Proposal (RFP) that reflects the business requirements. The team uses the requirements to develop evaluation and ranking tools, and then uses these tools to assess each response to the RFP.

The team identifies a subset of suppliers as candidates for negotiations, and conducts a series of detailed discussions that include clarification of the RFP response, scope issues, schedule, and other areas of concern. This step includes multiple rounds of pricing discussions that will lay the groundwork for a final selection.

Monitoring and Controlling – The Fourth Critical Step in Selecting an Innovative Supplier Partner

In the procurement context, Monitoring and Controlling involves a review of the scope, requirements, schedule, and other metrics involved in the evaluation. This review creates an opportunity to refine assumptions and get feedback from the respondents on their ability to meet or exceed the stated performance goals. Teams can use the feedback to calibrate the performance goals and to make tradeoffs of scope versus schedule, for example. Then they can create a more realistic set of performance goals, if appropriate. The team documents changes to performance metrics, scope, and schedule, and presents these for approval as well.

Closing – The Last Critical Step in Selecting an Innovative Supplier Partner

Closing is the last phase of the project. Here the team recommends a supplier to the appropriate groups, and the purchasing managers develop the contract documents. The procurement team develops guidelines on details to watch for while managing the new contract. For example, if the team awards a contract to a web developer on the condition that the developer commits additional resources for implementation, the commitment needs to be captured in the guidelines to ensure it is not overlooked. This document also serves as a reference for future procurement activities, including any follow up work with the selected supplier.

This five-step method is an indispensable tool for addressing current and future requirements, particularly for multifaceted contracts involving diverse stakeholder groups within your organization. Using it will ensure your ability to select a partner with the vision and capabilities needed to create a sustainable, scalable solution that advances your strategic goals.

5 New Innovative Ideas to Attract More Customers

Creating customers is the main goal of any business because they are the one who makes the business itself. Sometimes, providing time, money and effort in improving your products and services is important, but what counts a lot are the customers. They determine your success whether you are just a small business owner.  Therefore, many companies are providing excellent customer service to ensure their continued patronage.

Keeping the old ones is very vital because they spend more of their money buying your products. Because they are more likely t refer you to their family, officemates and friends.  The loyalty of the customers to the company is developed. But as a company expands and grow into larger one, new customers are coming in.

New customers are another challenge for entrepreneurs. Some are just “window shoppers” who are just looking around and trying to figure what is new with your product. Some are “doubters” who tend to look that they want to buy but having second thoughts.  The goal of the company now is to lure them into the fold and make them their patrons.

There are so many tested tips to attract more buyers. Many corporations had adopted the procedures and were successful. But as time changes, innovative methods in attracting more clients are now being used. Here are some of those:

To increase the potential of gaining more clients, join social networks. To publicize your product, think of signing up in any social network sites. This is where people go to connect to one another. Promoting your product in these sites would probably generate more sales since people are here to chat and talk about what is in.

Follow up letters and e-mails would help. Usually, customers would ask inquiries about your product; take time in answering those questions by replying to them. Give them all the details of your product. Your response would be a clear sign that you are interested making a deal with them.

Offer your clients with some freebies. Consumers don’t purchase the product unless they have tried it themselves. By putting the product in client’s hands, this gives them a first-hand experience and sees the results for themselves.  You may be giving a lot of free samples, but in return, you would have more sales more than you have spent.

Try direct response marketing. This one works like as if you are just getting to know a certain person. You call your clients and befriend them. Your new acquaintances would earn you new customers. Then slowly  introduce your product to them provide them an irresistible offer plus a gift to make them buy your product

Do direct selling. The salesperson comes in direct contact with the client. These include demonstrations, free delivery, and satisfaction guarantees. The client doesn’t need to go out anymore in order to get something, therefore minimizing the hassle in purchasing.

The traditional way of customers going to the mall to buy is slowly fading away. The trend today is bringing the product to customer’s right in to their doorsteps. The Internet has also revolutionized the system by simply directing their needs in just press of their keypad.

That is why an entrepreneur, in order for him to gain more profits, should switch now to modern methods of attracting more clients into his company.

How Can You Find and Study Examples of Continuing Business Model Innovators?

January 25, 2010 by admin

Having found that the top growth performing CEOs were continually improving their business models to become more profitable, the next challenge was to see what else could be learned about business model innovation. When I began to look at the earlier history of business model innovation, I saw that improved business models usually came from start-ups and new entrants. So entrepreneurs were obviously focused on this opportunity.

I then became curious about the frequency with which companies enjoyed ongoing success in improving their business models. Where should I find the answer?

I read the profiles of all public companies described in the Value Line Investment Survey over 12 years. I noted the companies that seemed to have completed at least two major successful business model innovations during those years, without regard to their stock-market performance. As a result of either lower stock-price growth or changes in CEOs, many of them did not make my CEO 100 lists during those years.

I contacted these companies by e-mail to request interviews with their CEO and some of the other senior executives. From these contacts, I was able to arrange CEO interviews at over 40 companies.

I performed literature searches on another few dozen companies that confirmed that they had been frequent business model innovators, but these companies declined to be interviewed. Obviously, you can still learn lessons by characterizing the direction that those companies take even if you cannot learn more fine-tuned details.

From these investigations, I became convinced that at least 70 public companies had performed at least two major successful business model innovations in the same business over the 12 years.

I began a year-long analysis. I took what was learned and summarized it in simple form so that more companies could understand how to choose and successfully follow this path. You could obviously do the same thing for the examples that interest you.

To test my thinking, I discussed the work in progress with many of the CEOs and their staffs as well as top strategic thinkers in other companies. Many valuable corrections and improvements were made as a result.

Next, I sought out individual, small company, and nonprofit examples of the themes that the larger, public companies exhibited. Many of these examples are drawn from my personal experiences with the subjects or my long-term interest in their work.

Finally, I kept in touch with all of the individuals and companies so that the information could be as up-to-date as possible.

Self Improvement Solutions – 5 Steps To Unlock Your Innovation

January 22, 2010 by admin

Innovation is a talent that everybody has. Some find it easier to express their innovative side than others but that doesn’t mean you don’t possess the skill. Just like riding a bike, learning how to drive and shaving it takes a bit of time and practice to achieve your potential. It just takes time, practice and determination. In this article discover a few tips on how you can unlock your potential with these 5 self improvement solutions and bring out your innovative side.

1. Don’t listen to what others say.

If you have an idea, don’t let other people’s input ruin your idea. If they don’t like your idea then they can deal with it. You need to learn to do things for yourself. Do you think that Einstein and other great geniuses went on to listen to their friends about their ideas? I don’t think so.

2. Exercise

Exercising relaxes your body by sending endorphins through your body. During exercise many people get a rush of creativity since they are so relaxed. Try it, run for a mile or two and see what happens.

3. Find your own style

Everyone is unique and style is also unique in people too. A poet can be told from another one just because of the words he uses or a painter because of the brush he used. If you can find yourself a unique style that works for you people will learn what a valuable asset you are because no one would have the same talent as you.

4. Don’t hide yourself behind fancy equipment

Just because you have the most expensive high tech equipment doesn’t make you the best. Yes it does give you an advantage but it is only a small one. Take this for example, do you think a photographer with the newest camera on the market that really doesn’t understand photography at all is really going to make it bigger than a photographer who knows how to take pictures using a disposable camera. No! The same goes with writing, if you have an expensive laptop what use is it to you if you can’t write. Make sure that you are good with your skill, just because you have fancy equipment doesn’t mean you’re the best!

5. Add some passion

Passion is that extra bit of effort that will take you to the next level. People with talent can do a good job but someone with passion will work hard. Do you think that that job position will fall into your lap just because you are the most talented? Maybe, but others will be determined to get that position and that could make them virtually impossible.

These are just 5 of the many things that can unlock your innovation and hopefully you will take these into consideration to bring out your innovation and let everything snowball from there.

A Review of the Global Wellness Innovation SRL Multi Level Marketing Company

January 17, 2010 by admin

I don’t have a lot of information to go off of to review the Global Wellness Innovation SRL Network Marketing Company, but I’ll do my best based on the information I’ve been able to gather. As of now it seems they are only showing up in classified ad sites, as I haven’t been able to find their own website yet. It also seems like they are a trading company out of Bihor in Romania. The company claims to be one of the most diverse industries of this century. They cover the health and wellness industry and are involved in Multi-Level Marketing.

Global Wellness Innovation SRL claims it took them years to research and find the most outstanding products reps could sell to earn a passive residual income with. They claim now, after years of market research, that they have finally found the most trusted manufacturing companies that are now their partners for long-term business. The goal of this company was to create high ticket products in a myriad of diverse markets that combine the best organic products along with cutting-edge manufacturing techniques.

This company claims that by employing this strategy for sourcing products that their company will continue to grow for the long term. This companies mission and emphasis is on Innovation, hence their name. They claim that their name and their methods for introducing products for public consumption will give Network Marketers a chance to earn extra income. The products this company offers are Instant Coffee, Tea, Organic Beauty Products, Food Items, Herbal Remedies and Hot Drinks.

Global Wellness Innovation SRL claims that it is scheduled to launch in 2009. They are offering free registration during the pre-launch process. The company in the past claims to have created Twenty Five Country Wide, and Five Hundred International Premium Bonus Pool Sharing opportunities for the last 3 years in a row. So my hunch is that this company has done some pretty big things in the past already at least that’s what they are saying.

If you do decide to pay to join Global Wellness Innovation SRL you will be part of the Elite Club. All the Elite Club members will split 6% from the companies Country Wide monthly bonus value. You also have a chance to join the International Elite Club. These members will be splitting 2% of the Worldwide Bonus Value. These benefits don’t include the normal MLM Compensation Plan attached to this company. I don’t have any details on exactly how the comp plan works yet, so these details are apparently forthcoming. I’ll keep an eye out and post an update when I hear something new. This opportunity appears to be worldwide since they’re offering Global Bonus Incentives.

Through Innovative ideas make a good income from home based business

January 16, 2010 by admin

Definitely, there are many ways to make money working from home. But there are some I would rank as the best work at home ideas that are not generally talked over. Here are a several ideas you can use to make money working from home that you may not have thought. There are quite a few ways to work from home and make money.

After looking at a variety of methods to make money online, I will showcase  great ideas below, from which you make quick cash.

1. Making Money With Twitter

Twitter is what YouTube.com used to be. While it is in its infancy, it is a great vehicle to ride to the top of your online career.

Twitter provides a great platform to build quality business relationships, which can lead to more money in your pocket, as well as in the pocket of your fellow business associates. Those who want to work from home simply need to know how to build a group of followers, who are hungry for what you have to offer. Some of the pros of using Twitter to market yourself and your business include:

You may have heard of taking surveys, answering calls for a company from your home, and even selling books via amazon.com. However, these are not the only Internet ballgames in town.

2. Start a blog with the sole purpose of selling advertising on it. You will not be worried about looking products to sell. You will not be worried about generating your own products. All you need to worry about is creating the best blog so you can produce a large volume of traffic to it.

As your traffic reaches a certain number you can start to sell advertising on it. There are many companies today looking for places to spend their advertising money. They can not afford the overpriced advertising that they have been spending on the radio, on television, in magazines, and in newspapers.

As more people get their information from the Internet and this is a big opportunity for people such as yourself to make money selling advertising. A high traffic blog is one very useful content and is very large in scope. Your long term goal is to get those advertising dollars and this would be one of the best work at home ideas.

3. Start an Online lead generation company. Each business needs to get more visitors to their websites and many of them need leads to follow up with. You will be familiar with cost of the programs. You also can join who will pay you to get leads from affiliate networks.

However an idea that is not normally thought of is to bypass the affiliate networks and go directly to the companies. There are a lot industries that need leads and they would be happy to pay you for them.

You could make a contract with a mortgage loan company to sell them leads for people who are looking to refinance their home. You can get a percentage of the sale by setting it up so you will get so much for each lead that you generate. This would make it possible for you to earn a six figure income generating leads.

Another angle is offer to find people looking to buy or sell their car from local car dealers. If you understand how to develop leads by local search this strategy would actually work for just about any business in a local market needing leads. Other ideas besides car dealers is plumbers, basement refinishing companies, carpet cleaners, HVAC contractorsHealth Fitness Articles, and more.

This is the only two of what I would say as the best work at home ideas. These are not usually talked over on the internet but you can make money doing them. Get productive and find out how many work at home ideas you can come up.

Another way to make money while you work from home involves The Forex Currency Market. This is business model which involves the trading of currency. It is wise to learn various methods of trading, so that you can use them as your trading tools depending on what type of market climate you are in.
